Welcome to the web site of the USS Pawcatuck AO-108.
Well it is time to update this website since the last update. Our 20th reunion in Norwwich, Ct. was a great success. All told we had 80 people.
On Monday the 7th of May shipmates and family members started to arrive at the Holiday Inn in Norwich. The rest came in on Tuesday the 8th. At 1600 we started our welcome to those in attendance and we were honored to have a color guard from Groton, NB. do the honors.
We started our annual meeting and we had to recess and finish the meeting on Thursday after the banquet was finished.
On Wed morning the 9th we took the bus to see the USS Nautilis and enjoyed seeing the first nuke sub. It was raining and we then went to the Coast Guard Academy for lunch.
After a nice lunch we then went to the exchange to shop.
Then it was back to the hotel for dinner. After dinner we had our memorial service conducted by our Chaplin Mark McPherson and as uaual he did a fine job.
On Thursday the 10th we went to Pawcatuck, Ct. to dedicate a memorial for the ship and to the Cold War. This memorial was put in place the last of September 2009. The little park is right next to the Pawcatuck river of which the ship was named. We again had a color guard from Groton NB do the honors.
Then off to the VFW Post for lunch. Our thanks again to the people of Pawcatuck, Ct. for a warm welcome to there city and to all who helped see that our ship is remembered right next to the river. Thank you.
Back to the hotel for our banquet. Pictures were taken of those who attended. After the banquet the ladies held their annual rafffel for the scholarship fund. Then we finished the meeting and those in attendence picked Branson, Mo. for 2014.
I would like to thank all who have attended our reunions since I became the coordinator back in 2000. On Fri morning at our goodby breakfast I announced that as of June 1st of this year I would step down at the coordinafor for our reunions. It was a pleasure doing the job and I thank all who have helped in anyway to make the reunions something to remember.
So say goodby but will still help in anyway I can.
Paul Houston along with Mark McPherson will be doing handling some of the details. I will keep up the web side along with our web master Dan Ott. A big thank you to Dan.
Yours
David Willis Past Reuion Coordinator for the USS PAWCATUCK AO-108
